The speaker will be Dr. Jerry Lorenz, State Director of Research for Audubon Florida. The title of his talk will be “Pink Birds of the Everglades: Studies of Roseate Spoonbills and American Flamingos.”

Lorenz has worked at Audubon Florida's Everglades Science Center for 30 years. He came to the Keys to study fish but has spent the bulk of his career studying Roseate Spoonbills and American Flamingos.

“I blame the Audubon Society. But it is the focus of my scientific research and who doesn't like pink birds?” He said.

The talk will be in two parts, beginning with a review of why American Flamingos should be considered native to Florida, followed by a summary of ecological studies of Roseate Spoonbills in Florida Bay.

Admissions is free and open to anyone who is interested.
